Like some sleep habits, the best times to buy a mattress are season-dependent, and bed prices can fluctuate hundreds of dollars throughout the year. If you’re hoping to improve the quality of your sleep with a new memory foam or hybrid bed, you might have hovered your finger over the “add to cart” button and wondered whether the discounts are worth the wait. Short answer? Yes. Waiting to make a purchase until major shopping holidays can save you a lot of cash—and you can put any leftover dough toward a new mattress topper, sheet set, and pillow to complete your new sleep setup.
When Is the Best Time to Buy a Mattress?
Shopping holidays are usually the best time of year to buy a mattress, and these events usually coincide with—you guessed it—big holidays. Black Friday and President’s Day are two of the biggest ones, but there are several other opportunities to take advantage of annual savings events and reboot your bedroom with a new mattress.
Amazon Prime Day is another major savings event that pops up in July and October. This year, Summer Prime Day fell on July 16, while Prime Big Deal Days, aka Prime Day Part 2, is scheduled for October 8 and 9.
The Best Time to Buy a Bed—By Season
Don’t sleep on your best chance to get a sizable discount. Here are the best times of year to buy.
President’s Day Kicks Off Spring Mattress Sales
President’s Day can often feel like the dregs of winter, but it’s also a sign that spring is on the horizon. This marks a particularly good time to shop for mattresses, as many new models enter the market in early spring, which incentivizes companies to clear out their old inventory. President’s Day weekend (February 17 next year) is the weekend that includes the third Monday in February, and offers some of the first big savings of the year.
Amazon also holds a big spring sales event that works a lot like Prime Day. In 2024, Amazon’s Big Spring Sale event kicked off on March 20, so look for next year’s sale to start in mid to late March. When you think about mattress shopping, you might not think of Amazon, but thanks to its rapid-fire shipping and countless bed-in-a-box options, we’ve found that the online retail giant is an excellent place to buy a new bed.
We also recommend that you look out for sales at big box stores and direct-to-consumer brand stores around this time. A number of these brick and mortars hold sales events to match those online—and this can give you a better opportunity to try each mattress in person.
Summer Mattress Sales
The nights might be short and schvitzy, but summer can still be one of the best times to buy a bed. Memorial Day and July Fourth weekends are known for pool parties, cookouts, and rooftop hangouts, but they also mark two of the hottest summer sales events. If you’re shopping for a new mattress over the summer, look out for massive holiday savings on Memorial Day and the Fourth of July.
There’s also summer Prime Day, which offers substantial savings for Amazon Prime members. Beyond mattresses, Prime Day can be a great time to stock up on all the gear to help you sleep cooler, like percale sheets, new pillows, or a firmer box spring or platform. Additionally, more and more retailers are offering sales that coincide with Prime Day, including Walmart.

Black Friday is the OG of shopping holidays, and it’s still one of the best times to buy a mattress year-round.
