Welcome to the first-ever Chappell Roan Met Gala! After establishing herself as a bona fide style icon during last year’s festival season and a string of unforgettable red carpet appearances this year, it was only a matter of time before the pop diva made an appearance at fashion’s biggest night. Well, folks, it was worth the wait.
While plenty of other red carpet looks stuck to a traditional menswear palette—black, gray, white—the musician went full “Pink Pony Club” in her Met Gala debut. Patchworked together from glittering pink fabric, the two-piece suit features flared sleeves, wide lapels, and exaggerated slit bell bottoms. A spread-collar shirt only drives the point home: This is full-on ’70s glam rock worthy of David Bowie.
Roan finished the look with lace-up platform boots—sensing a theme?—with a similar kaleidoscopic effect, plus untamed Lady Godiva hair, silver eyeshadow, and a single puffy ring. (While it didn’t make it onto the blue carpet, her matching Penny Lane coat with sparkling faux-fur trim is just as fabulous.)
The night’s dress code is Tailored for You, and it’s clear Roan took the assignment personally; this ensemble is perfectly tailored to her personal style and her body. See how the pants flare in the right spot and just kiss the ground when she wears those platform heels? It’s razor-sharp, even if it’s trying not to look too put-together.
