Arkansas basketball 2024-25 practice news: John Calipari depth chart predictions from Razorbacks insiders

The No. 16 Arkansas Razorbacks are heading into their first season under head coach John Calipari, the ninth-winningest coach in Division I history. He led Kentucky to four Final Four appearances and is looking to take the Razorbacks to the Final Four for the first time since 1995. Calipari used the offseason to build a roster essentially from scratch, as Arkansas only has one key returnee from last year’s team. The Razorbacks officially open the season on Nov. 6 against Lipscomb before facing No. 8 Baylor at American Airlines Center in Dallas on Nov. 9.

They played a charity exhibition game against No. 1 Kansas last Friday, notching an 85-69 victory over a Jayhawks team missing two starters. Arkansas led by as many as 20 points in the second half, and Calipari will use that contest as a stepping stone for finalizing the Arkansas basketball depth chart heading into the season. Arkansas basketball roster overview

Calipari heavily utilized the transfer portal in the offseason, bringing three players from Kentucky with him to Fayetteville. He also signed three highly touted freshmen who previously committed to play for the Wildcats. Calipari rounded out the roster by snagging Tennessee big man Jonas Aidoo, FAU guard Johnell Davis and Arkansas’ lone returnee, Trevon Brazile.

Aidoo, Davis and Brazile are expected to be in the starting lineup when the season begins, but Aidoo was held out of the exhibition game against Kansas. Sophomore guard D.J. Wagner was a starter on Calipari’s Kentucky team last season, and he will likely join junior forward Adou Thiero as the final two starters to open the season. Star freshman Boogie Fland is the highest-ranked commitment in the No. 3 ranked signing class, so he could be the first player off the bench for the Razorbacks.

Wagner and Fland were outstanding in the exhibition win over Kansas, combining to score 46 points and grab six rebounds. Fland also excelled on the defensive end, racking up six steals as he makes his case for early-season playing time. The Razorbacks have another exhibition game against TCU coming up on Nov. 1, so Calipari can use that game to make more depth chart decisions. Join HawgSports to see the latest Arkansas basketball updates.
