Ashlee Simpson Just Dropped Major News—and Former Emo Kids Are Losing It

Major news on the Millennial nostalgia front! Ashlee Simpson—excuse me, Ashlee Simpson Ross—announced that she’s dropping an expanded edition of her seminal classic 2004 album, Autobiography, and I’m not sure if my inner tween can take the excitement.

On July 17, Simpson took to X (formerly Twitter), to share her big news. “Surprise! I’m dropping an expanded edition of Autobiography on Friday!” she wrote, along with album art from the original. The picture shows Simpson in all her early Y2K emo glory, with choppy, dyed black hair, colorful bangles, leg warmers, and hot pink stilettos.

Autobiography was Simpson’s debut album and includes her best known single, “Pieces of Me,” as well as lesser known bangers such as “La La” and “Shadow.” It was released at the height of sister Jessica Simpson’s infamous reality series, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, which definitely helped boost its popularity.

We don’t yet know how many songs Ashlee Simpson will be debuting on July 19, nor if these are re-recordings or original tracks from 2004. And we don’t know if this will lead to more new music in the future. All we know currently is that people are excited.

Reactions on X included: “just dropped my fork”; “This album was FORMATIVE for me. The girlies can try but they will NEVER make a debut like Autobiography”; “I can’t wait for this to be my entire personality again”; and, “The way my BONES are so fucking ready for thissssssss.”

Same to all of that.
