Major news on the Millennial nostalgia front! Ashlee Simpsonâexcuse me, Ashlee Simpson Rossâannounced that she’s dropping an expanded edition of her seminal classic 2004 album, Autobiography, and I’m not sure if my inner tween can take the excitement.
On July 17, Simpson took to X (formerly Twitter), to share her big news. âSurprise! I’m dropping an expanded edition of Autobiography on Friday!â she wrote, along with album art from the original. The picture shows Simpson in all her early Y2K emo glory, with choppy, dyed black hair, colorful bangles, leg warmers, and hot pink stilettos.

Autobiography was Simpson’s debut album and includes her best known single, âPieces of Me,â as well as lesser known bangers such as âLa Laâ and âShadow.â It was released at the height of sister Jessica Simpson’s infamous reality series, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, which definitely helped boost its popularity.
We don’t yet know how many songs Ashlee Simpson will be debuting on July 19, nor if these are re-recordings or original tracks from 2004. And we don’t know if this will lead to more new music in the future. All we know currently is that people are excited.
Reactions on X included: âjust dropped my forkâ; âThis album was FORMATIVE for me. The girlies can try but they will NEVER make a debut like Autobiographyâ; âI canât wait for this to be my entire personality againâ; and, âThe way my BONES are so fucking ready for thissssssss.â
Same to all of that.
