Instructions On How to Make a Turkey Sandwich
It’s really easy to make a restaurant quality sandwich at home, using what you already have! Wasting food is a huge pet peeve of mine, so I use this recipe anytime we have leftover turkey, ham, or chicken.
Step 1
Spread mayonnaise on the slices of bread. This goes well with most breads like white bread, sourdough, whole wheat bread, etc.
Step 2
Add turkey, cheese, and other toppings of your choice on the bread slices. We like to use the turkey breast for that. I like provolone cheese, but my husband enjoys sharp cheddar, and the kids like monterey jack. Everyone’s perfect sandwich is different. My favorite part is adding the cranberry sauce. It just makes the entire sandwich taste amazing.
Step 3
Top with bread and cut. This is such an easy meal that everyone will love!
Finished Turkey Sandwich
- Serve immediately & enjoy!
- Place in a sealed sandwich bag and store in your fridge to take as a lunch.
- Pack a bunch of sandwiches in a sealed container to serve many and store in fridge.
Storage of Turkey Sandwich Recipe
If you are making your sandwich ahead of time and storing it in the fridge until later, wait to add your condiments until you are about to eat, to keep the bread from getting soggy.
Suggested Variations on the Best Turkey Sandwich Recipe
- Use any Thanksgiving leftovers for your classic turkey sandwich. I love adding a little breading to mine.
- If you don’t like soft bread, you can toast the bread first or use a panini press to toast the bread.
- Use a croissant and turn it into a turkey club sandwich. You can make the ultimate turkey sandwich.
- Not using cranberry sauce? Using mostly vegetables and turkey? Instead of mayo, try your favorite salad dressing.
- Turkey bacon: Fry up some bacon to add to your turkey sandwich! Give it a little kick and make your own chipotle mayo.
- Turkey pesto: It’s pretty simple to make pesto, combining basil leaves, pine nuts, olive oil, and garlic, but you can also use store-bought pesto, too! Combine pesto and the turkey in a bowl, until coated, and then make your sandwich.
- Turkey and cheese: Add any cheese you would like, even combining different cheeses!
More Turkey Sandwich Recipe Ideas
- Turkey cranberry: This is a favorite in my house, and it’s a wonderful way to use your leftover cranberry sauce! Add a layer of cranberry sauce to the bread.
- Turkey avocado: The creaminess of fresh avocado blends nicely with the dryer texture of turkey, and it is so healthy!
- Ham and turkey: If you have leftover ham, in addition to leftover turkey, this is the perfect way to use up all that meat! Add a little bleu cheese for extra flavor!
- Turkey, bacon, avocado: This one has my heart. You can also make this as a grilled cheese! The melted cheese blends so well with the creamy avocado, and the crispy bacon.
Turkey Sandwich Ideas We Love
- Grilled turkey: If you have a panini maker, put it in the machine, and voila!
- Turkey club: This is a favorite in restaurants, but it is so easy to make at home. Combine turkey, ham, cheese, mayo, lettuce, and tomatoes, and top with bacon.
- Gluten free turkey sandwich: Just use gluten free bread! Also be mindful of any marinade that might have been used on the meat. It is safer to make a gluten free sandwich at home. Then you aren’t risking cross contamination or a kitchen error! It is also cheaper!
