Shonda Rhimes, you sneaky minx. The wait between seasons of Netflixâs period romance Bridgerton is hard enough without making us fall in love with the lead actors months before weâll ever get to see their charactersâ love story! Unfair and uncool, Shondaland.
Just to mess with us, the company filmed a conversation between Luke Thompson, who plays Benedict Bridgerton, and Yerin Ha, a newcomer who will play his love interest Sophie Baek. Theyâre cute together. Disgusting!
In the video, Thompson comes off as a bit of a himbo (complimentary), flexing his biceps and not understanding Haâs impressive vocabulary, while Ha is smiley and sweet. And prismatic.
With the season currently in production, Ha and Thompson are in the thick of costume fittings, and Ha described the process of becoming Sophie as very special. âItâs kind of incredible. I never saw myself wearing clothes, even maidâs clothes, in that Regency period, I never saw myself in those dramas,â she said. âEven trying them on has been so new and fresh andâ¦refreshing. I feel really honored.â
Though racially inclusive casting has become more common in the last few years, and is a staple of Bridgerton, most of the Regency movies and shows we all grew up watching had all-white casts, so for many Bridgerton actors, the show is their first chance to explore the Ye Olde Austen Times of it all.
Most importantly, the conversation showcases the fact that the all-important chemistry between the season four leads is, in fact, chemistry-ing. Masked balls, sexy secrets, Katie Leung, a central love story weâre going to be obsessed with, can we just have it now? Hereâs everything we know about the upcoming season.
While you wait, just donât get duped into attending any knockoff Bridgerton events like the disastrous âballâ in Detroit that was just an event hall with a stripper pole. But if you do, definitely tell us about it.
