After a record-breaking start to her WNBA career, Angel Reese is out for the rest of the season.
Over the weekend the rebound queen of the Chicago Sky announced that she had sustained a season-ending injury to her wrist, later sharing on TikTok that sheâs electing to have surgery to prevent further issues. âWhat a year. I never would have imagined the last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3 but maybe that was God saying give them a taste of what they will be seeing more of in Year 2 lol,â she initially wrote on Instagram. âThrough it all, I have showed that I belong in this league even when no one else believed. All I have ever wanted was to come into the W and make an impact. I can confidently say I have done that and will strive to keep doing so.â

While Reese says she is âfilled with emotions,â she expressed her excitement to cheer on her team as they continue to fight for a spot in the playoffsâand eventually join the new Unrivaled league in the offseason. âAlthough this is Godâs timing and not mine, I am finally able to give myself a physical and mental break,â she added. âGod gives his hardest battles to his strongest soldiers.â
Many fellow players and professional athletes took to Reeseâs comments section to wish the rookie well. Las Vegas Aces player and two-time Olympic gold medalist Aâja Wilson left two white heart emojis, while tennis star Coco Gauff replied, âSo proud of you!!!â
Fellow WNBA rookie Caitlin Clarkâwho is often positioned as Reeseâs rival by fans and commentatorsâspoke highly of the LSU alum during a press conference. âItâs definitely sad whenever you see anyone go down with an injury, especially people that you came into this league withâone was Cameron [Brink], one was AngelâYou wanna see her finish out this year,â the Indiana Fever player told reporters. âObviously, sheâs had a historic year, and sheâs done some incredible things.â
