Obviously, massive spoilers for the Emily in Paris season 4 ending are ahead…
Three letters: OMG. Nobody could have guessed that ending for Emily in Paris season four. Because no matter what city she lives in, who would have ever thought that Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) would put down her phone and deliberately leave it at home? Unbelievable!
But let’s back up and recap: In the last few scenes of season four, Emily has moved to Rome to lead the Italian office of Agence Grateau. After checking out her new apartment, she rides off into the sunset on a Vespa with Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini). Meanwhile, back in Paris, chef Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) realizes he’s made a big mistake after Mindy (Ashley Park) tells him about Emily’s new promotion. As for Mindy, she’s on her way to China to be a judge on Chinese Popstar after her video went viral. Camille (Camille Razat) has moved out of Emily and Gabriel’s apartment building and plans to adopt a child. Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) has a new girlfriend. Oh, and it seems like Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) might be tempted to visit the Rome office to spend more time with her Italian lover.
So, what could happen next? We have a few theories on how this all might play out in Emily in Paris season five…
1. Emily in Paris Rome
It doesn’t rhyme, but it would be an exciting new direction for the show. There would be lots of gorgeous and fascinating places for Emily to explore in the Italian city (and, like her, thousands of fans come to the Eternal City as tourists).
Marcello, perhaps the wealthiest of all goatherds and on his way to becoming Emily’s new boyfriend, lives near Rome. Will he treat her better than Gabriel has? As things stand, that wouldn’t be difficult. But do we really see Emily under the Italian sun, taking a nap at lunchtime in the summer months? Maybe for one or two episodes—but not for a whole season, if I’m being totally honest.
Potential: Immense. This could inspire future seasons, like “Emily in Berlin” or “Emily in London.” She really hasn’t been to other European cities yet. Why not expand?
2. Mindy becomes a Chinese pop star and leaves the series
Mindy (Ashley Park) performed a ballad in a piazza in Rome, was filmed while doing so, the clip went viral, and Chinese Popstar reached out and asked her to become a jury member despite the fact that she was kicked out of the auditions as a contestant years ago. After the Eurovision deal and her complicated relationships with Nicolas and Benoit, it seems almost a foregone conclusion that she will go to China in the season four finale. Will she be back? Unclear! Because the spin-off Mindy Alone in Paris is not yet planned, and no one currently knows whether or not Emily will really stay in Paris, this leaves us with a lot of questions.
