The Fantasy football waiver wire is most-often used as a stopgap solution to plug holes in your Fantasy football lineups or to build overall roster depth. However, on occasion, you might be able to find the type of talent who can help you win your league. 49ers running back Jordan Mason has been arguably the best waiver-wire addition in the NFL with Christian McCaffrey (calf) on injured reserve, but what will become of Mason with the Niners reportedly targeting a Nov. 10 return for McCaffrey?
Jonathan Taylor (ankle) has also been out for several weeks, but Trey Sermon wasn’t able to seize on an opportunity in the same fashion as Mason. However, Tyler Goodson has produced when called upon and is earning a larger role, so might he be worth a waiver claim this week? Before making any Week 8 Fantasy football waiver claims, be sure to see what SportsLine Fantasy football expert R.J. White has to say.
White has dominated NFL betting picks for years, but he got his start in sports media as a Fantasy baseball and football analyst. He finished No. 1 among all experts for his draft rankings the first year FantasyPros tracked MLB expert accuracy on their site. White has continued to excel at season-long and dynasty Fantasy baseball and football formats.
Now, he’s revealed his top waiver wire picks from among the widely available Fantasy football free agents entering Week 8. You can see his top Fantasy NFL waiver wire picks and full analysis over at SportsLine.
Top Fantasy football waiver wire picks for Week 8
One player White is advising Fantasy players to target on the Week 8 waiver wire: Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. The NFL passing leader in 2023 threw for 338 yards and a touchdown in a Week 1 win over the Jaguars but had a tougher time against a solid Bills defense in Week 2 before suffering yet another concussion that sent him to injured reserve.
However, Tagovailoa is on the path to recovery and could be back as early as this week against the Cardinals. The Miami offense has sputtered without Tagovailoa in the lineup, but the talent is unquestionable and the Pro Bowler has proven to be an ideal fit in the system over the last two seasons. There’s injury risk inherently given his history, but White still thinks spending up to 11% of your free agency budget would be acceptable.
White is also strongly recommending Patriots tight end Hunter Henry. The ninth-year veteran’s success throughout his career has largely been matchup dependent. He’s TE7 because he’s had two games this season where he’s had at least eight catches for 92 yards but he’s been targeted five times or fewer in the other five games that he’s played.
However, the primary reason for optimism going forward is rookie quarterback Drake Maye, who has helped turn the New England passing attack around to an extent. In two games with Maye as the starter, Henry has reached double-digit Fantasy points in PPR leagues and has 11 catches for 133 yards and a touchdown overall. If you need to stream a tight end or are dealing with an injury at the position, White advises spending up to 5% of your FAB on Henry.
