It’s a refreshing reversal of a move we’ve seen a few times. Not only is a woman proposing to her man, when typically the question is popped in the other direction, but it’s also the first time I can remember that the athlete has proposed to their partner at the end of an event, rather than the non-competing partner proposing to the athlete.
Although sometimes, like in the case of the Chinese Badminton players, both get a medal before the big moment.
Of course there are people with Opinions about where and when and who regarding proposals, like whether it’s okay to make someone’s individual glory “about” the relationship. But let’s consider that in the twenty-first century, most couples on the verge of engagement have probably had conversations about the moment, and know each other well enough to gauge what kind of proposal their partner would be into. At least, they know each other better than we the public know either of them, so let’s just be happy for the lovebirds, kay?
