Kids use skills such as cutting, gluing, and coloring to complete this lesson on color value. This project uses few supplies and is easily completed at home or in the classroom.
What is color value?
The value of art refers to the lightness or darkness of a color.
– Materclass –
By knowing the value scale of a color, artists are able to use fewer supplies, while adding detail, depth, and variety to their work.

Directions to Make a Ghostly Graveyard Art Project
Step 1
Using a pencil, kids lightly sketch grass, tombstones, ghosts, etc. on cardstock. These need to be basic outlines that are easily cut out.
Step 2
Cut shapes from cardstock.
Step 3
Use a small amount of glue to attach shapes to copy paper.
Step 4
Flip copy paper over and color the entire page with a crayon. It is best to use the side of a crayon rather than the tip.
Step 5
Use crayon to firmly draw details such as grass, eyes, lettering, etc. Kids should notice at least 3 different values from their crayon. A lighter value covering the entire page, a middle value along the edges of the cut shapes, and the darkest value on the final details.
