Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox Share Heartbreaking Tributes to Matthew Perry

Two weeks after Matthew Perry’s untimely death at the age of 54, Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox are ready to share their deeply heartfelt tributes to their Friends costar.

Perry was found dead of an apparent drowning at his home in Los Angeles on October 28. Immediately following the news of his death, the rest of the famously tight-knit cast—Aniston, Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, and David Schwimmer—released a joint statement about the actor: “We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew,” their statement, signed by all five stars, read. “We were more than just cast mates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.”

After LeBlanc shared his own moving farewell message on November 13, Cox and Aniston followed suit. On November 14, Cox shared a clip from Friends that all fans will immediately recognize as the beginning of her and Perry’s onscreen relationship. “I am so grateful for every moment I had with you Matty and I miss you every day,” she wrote. “When you work with someone as closely as I did with Matthew, there are thousands of moments I wish I could share. For now here’s one of my favorites.”

She also shared “a little backstory” about the iconic scene, in which Ross walks in on Chandler in bed while Monica hides under the covers, and a sweet anecdote about Perry’s generosity as an actor. “Chandler and Monica were supposed to have a one night fling in London,” wrote Cox. “But because of the audience’s reaction, it became the beginning of their love story. In this scene, before we started rolling, he whispered a funny line for me to say. He often did things like that. He was funny and he was kin.”
