Joe Alwyn would like to be excluded from this narrative (probably). The actor and notoriously press-shy ex-boyfriend of Taylor Swift has laid low following the April 19 release of The Tortured Poets Department, Swiftâs first album since she and Alwyn ended their six-year-long relationship.
However, after some tabloid chatter about Alwynâs reaction to the album began bubbling up over the weekend, a new report seems to be trying to put any speculation about ill will or discomfort to rest.
On April 29, People reported that, according to sources, Alwyn is âdating and happy.â The source adds, that the actor has âmoved onâ following the pairâs 2023 breakup, and that he âcertainly doesnât talk poorly about her.â
âHe was in love with her, and it just didnât work out,â the source said. They also reiterated that while Alwyn âlovesâ actingâheâs starring alongside Emma Stone in the forthcoming Kinds of Kindness, which will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this yearâhe âcanât stand the attention that comes with it. Heâs not comfortable in the spotlight.â
âHeâs a great guy and not into drama in any way,â the source added.
This is probably the most weâll get from Alwyn regarding his breakupânot that thatâs any surprise. Even while they were dating, the 33-year-old refused to answer any questions about Swift. Likewise, Swift respected Alwynâs wishes to keep their relationship out of the public eye, rarely even acknowledging him in the press or on social media.
Their seemingly amicable breakup stands at odds with the end of Swiftâs summer fling with the 1975 frontman Matty Healy, who seems to have inspired a majority of the 34-year-oldâs more vengeful songs on TTPD. While many speculated that the titular âtortured poetâ on Swiftâs album was Joe Alwyn, Swifties are now in agreement that itâs Healy that was cosplaying the tortured man.
