Let’s Make an Easy Nature Collage

Making a simple nature collage out of found nature objects is a fun and educational way to spend some time together at home or in the classroom. While this flower collage craft works for kids of all ages, it is especially magical to preschoolers and Kindergartners when you start with a nature scavenger hunt for art materials.

How to Make a Nature Collage

On our most recent walk to the park, my daughter brought her bucket along to help her collect items she wanted to keep.  Once we got home, we emptied out her bucket to see what interesting items she had collected.

Supplies Needed to Make Nature Collage Art

The leaves and flower looked so pretty together that I wanted to try to preserve them.

Directions for Nature Collage Art

Step 1 & Step 2 Contact paper collage of nature - tape corners and remove backing - Kids Activities Blog
It is easiest if you start with the paper taped to your table.

Step 1

First, I taped the non-sticky side of the Con-Tact Paper to the table. The paper backing is facing up.

Note: Taping the Con-Tact paper to the table isn’t necessary but it made it a lot easier for my three year old to work with it because the edges didn’t roll up.

Step 2

Remove the paper backing.

Now it is time to create your nature collage.

Step 3

My daughter loved having the sticky side of the Con-Tact paper exposed.   She quickly started placing her leaves and petals on the paper.

Step 4

When she decided her design was complete, I helped her place another piece of clear Con-Tact paper on the back and she pressed it firmly down.

My daughter hung the collage on a wall in her room. It looked pretty with her pink walls as the background.

Homemade Nature Suncatcher Craft

Next we tried hanging it on a window like a suncatcher.   We decided it looked best here because the sun illuminated the flowers and leaves so well.

How Long will a Nature Collage Last?

  • Fresh leaves and flowers: If you use fresh leaves and flowers for this project, you can expect for it to look nice for about a week.  The flowers will fade and the leaves will turn brown and eventually you may even see some mold from the moisture trapped inside.  Discard it at this point.
  • Dry leaves and petals: However, if you want it to last forever, just dry your leaves and petals before making the collage.
