Michelle Williams Found the Perfect Early Spring Shoe for Transitional Dressing

The sun is making more regular appearances these days, but that doesn’t mean it’s anything close to warm. Out and about in New York City, Michelle Williams found the perfect combination of materials—and the right ratio of skin to clothing—to weather the transition into spring. Everything about this outfit just works.

Heading into Watch What Happens Live, the Dying for Sex star paired a quilted tweed top with baggy mid-rise barrel jeans, leaving a sliver of midriff showing. The cropped cut and the three-quarter-length sleeves give the whole top a sort of shrunken appearance that contrasts nicely with the loose denim, as if she just threw these pieces together, even though they’ve clearly been tailored to her body. Williams is wearing the clothes, they aren’t wearing her.

As for accessories, Williams bookended the ensemble with dark black sunglasses on her face and black shoes on her feet, peep-toe mules for a woman who knows sandal season is coming—but it ain’t here yet. She seems to be leaning into the “wrong-shoe” theory here, pairing the more casual bottoms with a vintage-inspired patent leather pair of stacked heels rather than a more expected shoe, like a sneaker or a bootie.

A little Chanel purselette (a word my mom made up that we should all start using) and a necklace tucked into her top complete the look.
