Society is ever advancing, with technology becoming increasingly dominant presence in of our lives. While those who grow up with it find it normal, those who see it develop sometimes feel like they are caught by it. Nach Vorn, or “Foreward,” represents this feeling of inexorable change.
Located in Potsdam, a short drive out of Berlin, this sculpture depicts a man riding a sort of bicycle composed out of what seems like two tornados. Alejandra Ruddoff designed the piece in 1997 and installed it in 2002. This statue represents humanity caught in an ever progressing society, doing its best to keep balance on this ever more chaotic vehicle.
The statue was purposely placed on the intersection between three highways and a tram line as this extremely busy place means that the surrounding is ever moving forward in chaotic directions.
