Rami Malek Is So Good at Dressing Like a Bond Villain

Not many contemporary actors can channel a Bond villain quite like Rami Malek. In 2021’s No Time to Die, he masked up as the slightly insane but slickly dressed Lyutsifer Safin—and while a lot’s happened since then, the actor is still checking into good bad-guy fits.

At the Saint Laurent runway show during Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday, Malek was in attendance alongside some other Very Famous People™: Kate Moss! Rosie Huntington-Whitely! Bella Hadid! And though it was a womenswear show, Malek’s dark-sided look proved just how potent the label’s ongoing luxe-crime-lord shtick—which has already yielded the year’s most important suiting—really is.

Starting from the top, the Oscar winner slipped on a big, sheeny trench coat layered on top of a sheer shirt that recalled fellow Oscar winner Cillian Murphy’s memorable Saint Laurent blouse, which made rounds after Oppenheimer‘s London premiere last year. Malek then jumped into some navy-toned, baggy-ish trousers and a pair of ultra-glossy patent leather shoes. And of course, no bad-guy fit is complete without a pair of shades, and Malik had that box ticked with the maison’s very big and very old school “Dune” aviators.

It’s dark. It’s moody. It’s sexy. It’s “video game final boss.” It’s very statement-y but also quite understated at the same time. And it’s living proof that, for some guys, once you break bad, you just never go back. Just take a look at Mads Mikkelsen; almost two decade years after his role as Le Chiffre in Casino Royale and the man is still dressing like a Bond villain. And do we blame him or Rami Malek for banking on their best assets? Absolutely not.
