If you’re going to pick up the first red card of your career, might as well make it count and Luton Town goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski did just that. After receiving a yellow card for timewasting on ly 29 minutes into the match, Kaminski ventured outside his box making challenges on two Portsmouth players to receive his second yellow only two minutes and 23 seconds after the first, getting dismissed 31 minutes into the match. Due to the Hatters not having a keeper on the pitch, captain and star striker Carlton Morris had to be withdrawn for backup James Shea to go in the net.
Take a look:
Kaminski’s challenges would’ve been more at home on the ice, playing hockey and even without the time wasting they were arguably enough for a red on their own. With Luton looking to bounce back after being relegated from the Premier League, they can’t afford a slow start to the new Championship season but moments like this won’t help.
In the early season, it can take time for players to get back in the swing of things and the keeper has now had his chance to shake off rust but he’ll be needed as the season progresses. In the 2023-24 Premier League season only Andre Onana made more saves than Kaminski’s 145 as the Luton defense required him to be involved often.
